The Combined Department of Pathology and Bacteriology was started in 1913 under the chairmanship of Lt. Col. H. J. Walton. The course of MD (Pathology ) was started in 1918. Lt. Col. H Stott made special contributions in assembling the museum, which is one of the best in the country.
The department was shifted into a newly constructed building in 1955. In 1960 the department was upgraded by the central government to provide enhanced facilities for postgraduate training and research. During the 1970’s remarkable developments took place leading to the creation of various subspeciality laboratories housed in the newly expanded building.
Our Aims is educate and spread awareness of communicable, non communicable diseases, life style diseases in schools, teaching institutions, government and private organisation offices including print and electronic media groups, social health camps about significance of routine and special pathology tests for healthy life, maternal child health, anaemia prevention in school children, adults & old age senior citizens, cancer awareness and prevention programme , early detection of risk factors of cardiac , neurological diseases, early detection of neuro-musculo-skeletal diseases including osteoporosis, early detection and follow up of cases of diabetes and hypertension and spreading basic ground level elementary medical education to each citizens of society utilising mass communication via print and electronic media.

The Department of Pathology and Bacteriology was established in 1913, led by Lt. Col. H. J. Walton, with the MD (Pathology) program starting in 1918. Lt. Col. H. Stott contributed significantly to developing a renowned museum. The department offers education across MBBS, BDS, MDS, MD, MS, DM, MCh, paramedical, and nursing programs, and runs MD, PDCC, and PhD courses.
We pay our reverence and gratitude to all our esteemed teachers, doyen of pathology whose dedication, teachings, research and discipline blessed and bloomed us all in department of pathology with legacy and professional traditions of great national and international prestige and reputation in the field of pathology.We are deeply grateful to Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Soniya Nityanand for her blessings, unwavering support, and encouragement in all our academic pursuits and endeavours.We are proud of our alumni who hold prestigious and highest positions in academia, research, and private practice both nationally and internationally, for their life long bondage, academic collaborations, encouragement and inspiration to fellow colleagues.
We are thankful and proud of all faculty, editors (Prof. Suresh Babu & Prof. Preeti Agarwal), senior residents (Dr. Akanksha Sharma, Dr. Devanshi Brajesh Dubey, Dr. Himadri Shukla, Dr. Krachi Agarwal and Dr. Nida Shabbir) for writing and publishing 1st Edition of “Concise Undergraduate Practical Manual of Pathology” with the aim of academic pursuits for medical undergraduate students teaching. Students feedback is of utmost importance to us to keep this manual edited to improve and update it with the latest knowledge and literature.We are thankful to all our patients for their belief in our pathology department services for more than century time.
